Who is 67 Blankets?
67 Blankets was started in December of 2013 by Carolyn Steyn in honor of Nelson Mandela Day.
Since inception, 67 Blankets has transformed into what some are calling a ‘movement’ – a movement that has captured the attention of many South African and international celebrities as well as corporates and KnitWits for Madiba in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Cyprus, London, the USA, Ireland, Italy, and India.
In its brief history, the campaign has realized some important milestones. After just nine months, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day won CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR at the South African of the Year Awards in October 2014. On April 21, 2015, to mark 21 years of democracy in South Africa 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day smashed the Guinness World Record for the “The Largest Crochet Blanket in the World” measuring 3,377 square meters at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

How does it work and where does it go?
You can donate 1 ball, or 100 balls from the comfort of your own home. Choose how many you’d like to donate by clicking on the buttons below and make payment on our website – The Wool Shoppe will handle the rest. We will process the order and deliver the yarn that you have sponsored to 67 Blankets where they will distribute it to our KnitWits throughout the country.
This fundraiser will run between 13 October 2023 and 22 December 2023 Extended to 26 Junary 2024.
Yarn will be selected at random and donated to our KnitWits for Madiba.
1 ball works out to 1 x 100g Double Knit ball of yarn. There is no limit to the number of balls of goodwool you would like to donate.
